Escultura

Radio Plantón
Bronze sculpture 45 x 20 cm.

I created this sculpture in Oaxaca de Juárez during the social conflict of 2006, when the Popular Assembly of the Peoples of Oaxaca movement generated an intense network of citizen communication through community radio stations. One of them was Radio Plantón.

In the piece, an agave plant emerges from the body of a car, a plant deeply connected to the landscape and culture of Oaxaca. From this agave, the quiote, the plant's flower stalk , grows and becomes a structure reminiscent of an antenna or a transmission tower. I was interested in representing how, in the midst of conflict, everyday objects and the environment were transformed into platforms for amplifying the collective voice.

Radio Plantón is a reflection on memory, territory, and society's ability to create its own communication channels.
